Hello Everyone:
My apologies for the delay in updating. Last week I was upgrading our home telephone and computer network and everything was down a little longer than anticipated. Then, I tried to use the WiFi network at the hospital and that was down. Sooooo, here we are.
Last Thursday and Friday marked significant improvement for Vikki. She just looked and felt better. Not pain free but pain manageable. She continues to have three drainage tubes in her abdomen and they are doing exactly what they are supposed to do. Getting rid of some of the "gunk" that is causing the swelling. Her legs and feet have returned to normal size. She is able to walk the hall on her own. When I walk with her and push her IV stand for her, she can set a pretty good pace.
Saturday was not as good a day as Thursday and Friday. More abdominal pain. A little more bed rest, good night's sleep and God's grace saw her through the day. She is consuming enough food by mouth that they disconnected her from her IV nutrition. She also is taking some of her antibiotic/antifungal medication orally.
Sunday she was back to her comfort level of Thursday and Friday. She went back to taking the antibiotic/antifungal medication via the IV. There is not a problem with Vikki; however, the drug that the infectious disease doctor wants her to take is not stocked at the hospital and must be procured somehow.
The word "discharge" has come up some recently. On Monday or Tuesday we will discuss probable discharge dates. She has a couple of medical hoops to jump through and several doctors must be in agreement before they will let her go. As much as Vikki sincerely wants to come home, she definitely does not want to come home too soon and then have to return. (She has had to do that in the past)
Trivia: Vikki has been at Northside long enough that I qualify for a free parking pass. Some perk; but I'll take it!
Thank you all again for your prayerful support, cards, flowers and books. We are extremely blessed by all of you.
Sola Deo Gloria, Gregg
