VIKKI MAKES PAROLE

The judge in Vikki's case has accepted her plea for release. He commuted her sentence to time served although she is actually still under house arrest for a few more weeks. The warden released her in to my custody today. She does have "tethering device" to keep her on a short leash.

Translation

The two doctors remaining on Vikki's case have decided, probably with a little encouragement from Blue Cross, to release her today. The surgeon and infectious disease specialist signed off today. She was told to "get outta here." She has a list of do and don'ts to adhere to. She still has one remaining drainage tube in her left side which will probably be removed on Monday, 10.13.2008 at the surgeon's office. Guess who gets to empty the "grenade" twice a day? By mouth she is taking her pain medication and her high octane infection fighting drugs.

Wow. Vikki has come so far in the last three weeks. We are so grateful for all of her nurses, personal care techs, student nurses, nurse interns, pharmacists, nutritionists, her physicians and all of those who were personally involved in her care. We developed a certain fondness for a few of them. Celebrating with them when they were going to get several days off and rejoicing at their return. Sharing some excitement when they did well on a test and sympathizing for them when you knew they had to deal with an non-compliant patient for 12 hours. These are the people that are the instruments of God's mercy and healing. They set the standard competence and compassion; exhibiting the true dedication of a servant's heart.

Well now. How do I close out this blog properly? I want to say thank you to all of you who have read the blog and lifted Vikki up with your prayers, cards, flowers, and phone calls. Just saying thank you seems so inadequate but what words can accurately express what is in my heart? You all are the best!!! We are so blessed by family, friends, neighbors, and spiritual warriors. You too are instruments of God's mercy and healing.

Sola Deo Gloria, Gregg
